Help with Port Forwarding (PortForward.com)
As mentioned during the netcast, Windows Home Server requires the following ports to be forwarded through a user's NAT router:
- Port 80 - HTTP for remote web access
- Port 443 - HTTPS for secure (SSL) remote web access
- Port 4125 - The port for the Remote Desktop Proxy
You can simply enable your NAT router's UPnP service to allow Windows to perform this port mapping for you. But this opens the router up to abuse by malware. It's safer to disable UPnP and manually map the required ports to the IP of the host machine behind the router.
No Skype Supernode (Right-Click and SaveAs... or Left-Click and Open)
The "NoSuperNode.reg" file above, when opened, will add settings to the registry for the Windows (only) versions of Skype (V3.0 and later) to prevent it from ever becoming a SuperNode and relaying other Skype users' traffic. The file contains these registry declaractions:
